Jay Fry is one of Westside Barbell's most prolific bench pressers. As a Bench Specialist Jay has broken two All Time World Records in the 181 pound weight class, and holds the current All Time World Record, 725lbs @ 181lbs!
Jay started his Bench Pressing career at Liberty Center High School in Northwest Ohio, where weight training was made mandatory by the high school football coaches. Using the "BIGGER, FASTER, STRONGER" training method, Jay benched 315lbs raw (no equipment) at a body weight of 145lbs as a Senior in high school
Jay also spent 7 years as an Optional Level, High School, and Collegiate womens gymnastic coach, where he learned gymnastics training methods that only using your body weight as resistance to build explosive, fast twitch, dynamic tendon strength that carried over into the sport of powerlifting.
Jay has trained for 4 years at the most famous powerlifting gym ever known Westside Barbell.
Spending his time studing under the expert tutelage of the greatest Bench Presser of all time George Halbert, the God Father of powerliftng Louie Simmons, and Jays training partner Scott Vickery, Jay has mastered Westside Barbell's training methods.
In early 2007 a temporary job transfer to Southwest Iowa opened Jay up to a whole new world of training. Living out of a hotel and only being a hour away from another great powerlifting gym called B.I.G. Iron in Omaha, NE he took the opportunity to train with some of the greatest modern bench pressers of all time.
With the help of Brad Heck, Becca Swanson and Rick Hussey of B.I.G Iron, Jay learned a whole new training regimen, B.I.G. Iron style!
After returning to Ohio and Westside Barbell, Jay began piecing together the best parts of the two bench press training styles and techniques. Combining Westside's raw training with bands and chains and B.I.G.'s intensive training in "Bench Shirts" with the use of partial reps off boards, Jay's taken the best of two worlds, and some of his own unconventional exercises and put them into one training style to maximize results.
For the past four years, Jay has dedicated his life to achieving his goals in this sport. Just recently he has started to share his knowledge with many of his Westside Barbell lifting partners. He is selective about the clients he accepts into his training program. He admits that the client is responsible for achieving the results, and that it takes an enormous amount of discipline and determination. Jay's looking for Goal Setters and Go Getters that aren't afraid of heavy weights!
